THE national men’s artistic gymnastics team led by two-time world champion Carlos Edriel Yulo swung into action last night in the all-around event of the 11th Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Yulo, who has only qualified for the floor exercise of the Paris Olympics, gets the chance to compete in more events in the French capital if he captures the men’s individual all-around gold in the meet organized by the Asian Gymnastics Union.

This will depend on the kind of opposition the pint-sized Pinoy phenom will be up against considering that he finished second overall in the all-around meet in the Singapore edition a year ago.

It will also depend on how prepared Yulo, who also bagged gold medals in the parallel bars, vault and floor exercise in the 2023 Asian meet, since it is widely-known that he has not had a coach since parting ways with Japanese mentor Munehiro Kugimiya nearly a year ago.

Joining him in the Uzbek capital are Justine Ace de Leon, Jhon Santillan, Juancho Miguel Besana and John Ivan Cruz while Yulo’s younger sibling, Karl Eldrew, will see action in the juniors competition.
