TOP beach volleyball teams led by Norway and Brazil will descend in the country for the penultimate leg of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge on Nov. 30 to Dec. 4 at the newly-built FIVB-certified Nuvali Sand Courts in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Robert Meeuwsen and Alexander Brouwer of Norway and Brazilians Julian Horl and Carolina Salgado, ranked as the top men’s and women’s teams in the world, will headline the elite field in the tournament serving as a ranking qualifying event for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
“We would like to thank Ayala Land for building the country’s first sand courts in Nuvali that meets the FIVB standards so we can hold the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge in the country,” PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara said during the event’s press launch yesterday at the Philippine Sports Commission Conference Hall.
With Suzara were Ayala Land vice president May Rodriguez and Estate Development head Mark Manundo, PNVF secretary-general Donaldo Caringal, PSC commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo and members of the national beach volleyball teams.
“We are happy to welcome our national athletes and thankful to the PNVF for hosting such a beautiful event,” Rodriguez said.
“We would like to thank the PNVF and Tats Suzara for making us the hosts of this tournament for the next three years,” said Guevarra of Ayala Land’s agreement with the PNVF to host the competition until 2026.
She added that five sand courts were built on the 5,000-meter area using special beach sand similar to those in Boracay and Acapulco, Mexico.
