THE International Volleyball Federation has responded to the demand letter of the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Inc. asking the world volleyball body to refund the $80,000 (roughly P3.8 million) LVPI paid to gain recognition in 2015, or else face legal action.

FIVB senior legal counsel Amelia Moore wrote former Philippine Olympic Committee vice president and LVPI president Joey Romasanta last May 11 to acknowledge LVPI’s letter sent May 4.

“The FIVB acknowledges receipt, with thanks, of your email below and letter dated 4 May 2021.  Please note that the FIVB will revert shortly with an answer to your request. Thank you very much for your understanding,” Moore wrote.

LVPI secretary general Ariel Paredes replied last Wednesday to Moore, stating that “on behalf of LVPI President, Mr. Jose Romasanta, we thank you for the email below. LVPI is anxious in waiting for your answer as it is deemed to put closure on this disturbing concern.

“LVPI looks forward to FIVB’s consideration of our request for settlement.”

“This is a welcome development that shows that the FIVB is aware of concerns, which is only fair and just,” said Romasanta, whose organization took over as the National Sports Association for volleyball after the Philippine Volleyball Federation was booted out of the world volleyball body.

Among the pre-conditions set by the FIVB for recognizing the LVPI was paying the $80,000 arrears owed by the PVF, formerly headed by Gener Dungo.

“Once this money is refunded, we in the LVPI can state that this issue settled and closed,” said Romasanta.

In the spirit of unity, Romasanta stepped aside so the Philippine Olympic Committee could organize a new election for a new volleyball group, with Ramon “Tats” Suzara subsequently getting elected as president of the Philippine National Volleyball Federation earlier this year.
