AFTER rising from No. 92 to No. 64 in the FIBA women’s 3×3 rankings, the WNBL-Pilipinas is hoping it will continue holding games to boost its bid of making it to the top 10 and gain a shot at an Olympic berth.
“Iyon ang ultimate goal namin and I think nothing is impossible,” Commissioner Haydee Ong said yesterday in the online Philippine Sportswriters Association forum.
“It’s going to be an exciting leg again for our viewers and for our women basketball players,” she added.
Ten teams divided into two groups will battle for honor, prize money, and prestige in the second leg of the WNBL-Pilipinas 3×3 that gets going on Feb. 26 at the Hoopla Gym inside the Angelis Resort in Muntinlupa.
First leg champion Uratex Dream Team bannered by Alyssa Villamor will gun for back-to-back titles but is expected to be challenged by the rest of the tough field led by sister team Uratex Tibay.
Uratex Dream retained the same core that ruled the inaugural leg last December led by Villamor, Kaye Pingol, Tina Deacon, and Angel Anies, and will be hard-pressed to go for a second straight crown and the P15,000 prize money.
