THEY’RE getting there.
Wilcon Depot 3×3 coach Anton Altamirano was pleased no end with his charges’ breakthrough semifinals stint in Leg 4 of the PBA 3×3 Season 3 First Conference
“I’m proud of the way our boys played, and they really showed that heart,” Altamirano said. “This is what we’ve been waiting for.
“We can’t wait to further progress in the coming legs,” he added.
Without big man Keith Datu who had a sprained ankle, the guest team wound up with a fourth-place finish last Tuesday in the fledgling 3×3 meet at Ayala Malls Circuit in Makati.
Wilcon Depot got there by getting back at Terrafirma with a 16-14 quarterfinal victory, with Louie Vigil scoring nine points to gain a slot in the Last Four.
Although the squad ran straight into a wall, losing to TNT 20-22 in the semis and to Meralco 20-21 in the battle for third, both in overtime, the fight that Wilcon showed is an indication of its continued improvement.
It’s a strong statement on the part of Wilcon Depot, sweeping Pool B with three impressive wins three days ago in the group stage.
Ael Banal’s late deuce allowed the team to squeak past Pioneer 17-16 to follow up its earlier wins over Blackwater 14-13 and NorthPort 18-14.
Wilcon Depot will look to crack the podium and hopefully, win the crown with Leg 5 set next week at the Ayala Malls Manila Bay.
