Wilcon Depot out to hit pay dirt

A BREAKTHROUGH title is just around the corner.

This is the belief of Wilcon Depot 3×3 coach Anton Altamirano despite his team’s quarterfinals exit anew in the PBA 3×3 Season 3 First Conference.

“Mas maganda na iyong ipinapakita ng team,” Altamirano said. “Nakukundisyon na kami unti-unti and we’re optimistic sa mga susunod pang legs.

“Breaks of the game lang. We played against a tough Meralco squad, and you can see we’re able to keep up with them,” he added.

The youthful tactician spoke after Wilcon Depot absorbed a stinging 13-14 loss to Meralco two days ago in the Last 8 of the fledgling 3×3 tourney.

TH Tumalip emerged as one of the consistent players for Wilcon Depot, notching six points and eight rebounds as he continues to lead the squad.

Ael Banal also showed promise with three points and four boards while Keith Datu got three and Yutien Andrada scored a pair.

It also didn’t help that the luck of the draw went against Wilcon Depot as it dropped to the third seed in Pool B even though it won two of its three games in the group phase last Monday.

The team tripped NorthPort 21-15 and San Miguel 17-14, but its earlier 12-18 defeat to Pioneer proved to be costly, thus the unfavorable placing in the quarterfinals.

Nonetheless, Altamirano has high hopes moving forward.

“Ang importante sa amin lumalaban iyong team at nakikita naman na kaunti na lang, puwede na tayong makasabay doon sa mga nangunguna this conference,” he said.
