WITH an improved roster, ZUS Coffee will try to go the extra mile in the PVL On Tour after notching its first victory over the weekend.
The Thunderbelles got their winning groove last Sunday, bouncing back from a loss against the Akari Chargers last Saturday, at the expense of the hapless Capital1 Solar Spikers 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 15-11 at the Ynares Center in Montalban, Rizal and climbed to 1-1 in Pool B.
The Jerry Yee-mentored ZUS side played back-to-back five-setter matches in its opening weekend as he reiterated that the team needs to move forward and bend over backwards to reach their goals.
“Masaya (after the win), of course. And ang haba ng mga games ano? Puro kami five setters, pero masaya. Not that easy integrating the players sa team, pero we will get there,” Yee said. “Okay naman kami last (Saturday) kasi okay naman kami sa inilaro namin
“Pero talo, hindi naman ganoon kahirap, but we have to move forward, ganoon naman iyong business. Laro lang, ensayo, laro, correction. Ganoon lang,” he added.
In their opening weekend, rookies AC Miner and Mycah Go made their presence felt for ZUS.
Miner, the fifth overall pick in the Draft, had 12 points for the Thunderbelles against Akari before following it up with 18 points against Capital1.
Go, the 17th overall pick, provided offensive and defensive goods for the ZUS with seven markers, 23 excellent receptions and 13 digs against the Solar Spikers.
Yee said they are training and integrating his system into the new players of the squad, with the help of his coaching staff. Some of Yee’s players in ZUS were his aces with the College of St. Benilde in the NCAA, like Go, skipper Cloanne Mondonedo, and Gayle Pascual.
“It’s basically still volleyball, still challenging. The staff is very eager to train iyong mga bago, and iintegrate iyong mga bago. Mas matagal ang practices ngayon sa dami ng gusto namin ipagawa,” Yee said. “Sa dami ng gusto namin ituro sa kanila, iyong coaches very eager sila na magturo. So, masaya. Challenging pero masaya.”
