Winning feeling never wanes for CSB

FIRMLY cementing their legacy in NCAA volleyball, the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers proved why they are nearly untouchable in four straight seasons.

The Lady Blazers captured their fourth consecutive title in the 100th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament last week—the Taft-based crew’s fifth overall championship that extended their dynasty in the grand old league.

Led by team consultant Jerry Yee and coach Onyok Getigan, the green-and-white swept the finals series against the Letran Lady Knights capped by a 25-19, 25-22, 25-19 victory in the Game 2 at The Arena in San Juan.

“Very grateful. Very thankful. Iyan naman iyong goal. Hindi naman one time, two times (mag-champion). Siguro as much as you can. Kung you can stay on top, iyon naman iyong goal,” Yee said.

Yee, also the head tactician of the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles in the PVL , was the architect of CSB’s reign that started in 2022 in Season 97.

The veteran mentor shared that winning titles has been the team’s focal goal as it will try to seize more diadems.

“Iyon lagi ang goal. Kapag hindi, wala lang. Basta iyon talaga ang goal. Hindi po puwedeng hindi. Five, sixth, sven (titles), we will try, we will try talaga,” Yee said.

Yee said that championships are crucial to the team’s volleyball program as it not only bears glory and pride but also brings in support from different sectors.

“It means a lot (winning title). Siyempre, nandiyan iyong support kapag nananalo ka, mayroong dumarating na support. Mayroong financial support (which) is very important. Kasi schedules, meals, dorms, gastos iyan ,” he said.

“Hopefully, we can sustain this. Hopefully, makapag-improve pa and it’s more fun kapag ganyan. If you win, may mga players coming in, may mga support coming in so, mas masarap (for our program).”

With only two-time MVP Mycah Go signing her swan song, expect another dream run from the Lady Blazers next season.
