Despite not having some of its aces, PLDT still proved too much for Farm Fresh 25-18, 25-21, 28-26 yesterday in the PVL On Tour at The Arena in San Juan.
The short-handed High Speed Hitters began their pre-season campaign on high with open spiker Kiesha Bedonia firing 14 points and having seven excellent receptions.
Veteran middle blocker Mika Reyes added 10 markers, outside hitter Jovie Prado also chipped in nine markers and 10 digs, Angge Alcantara tossed 20 excellent sets and skipper libero Kath Arado saved 20 digs and had 13 excellent receptions for PLDT.
The High Speed Hitters are playing without main gunner Savi Davison, still on a break but expected to return soon, middle blocker Dell Palomata and rookie Alleiah Malaluan who are currently with the Alas Pilipinas national women’s volleyball team in the VTV Cup in Vietnam.
“Iyon nga, tini-take namin iyong conference na ito na as a big challenge sa amin knowing na again, hindi na naman kami kumpleto,” PLDT coach Rald Ricafort said. “Pero iyon nga, ang opportunity na ibibigay like kila Kiesha, gusto namin i-take iyon na kumbaga pinaghirapan din naman namin iyong preparation so sabi ko lang sa kanila, tignan namin kung saan kami aabot this conference.
“Pero iyon nga, happy na nag-perform lahat tsaka ni-ready naman sila sa mga situations na katulad kanina so happy kami na na-execute namin,” he added.
Opposite spiker Trisha Tubu and middle blocker Rizza Cruz paced the Foxies with 14 and 10 points, respectively.
With the win, the High Speed Hitters entered the win column in Pool A with a 1-0 record while the Farm Fresh fell to 0-1.
PLDT will travel to Ilagan City in Isabela when it clashes with Petro Gazz while the Foxies tangle with the Choco Mucho Flying Titans.
