STRONG Group Athletics is not going anywhere as it reaffirmed its commitment to its partnership with the University of the East women’s volleyball program until the conclusion of the UAAP Season 87 tournament.
SGA president Jacob Lao reiterated their commitment to UE, specifically the women’s volleyball team until the end of their two-year commitment this season.
“We are committed to finishing our promise to UE, particularly with their women’s volleyball program,” Lao said in a statement.
This cleared speculations that SGA is pulling the plug on its support for the Lady Warriors before the start of the volleyball tournament next month.
A report went viral over the weekend that SGA’s sponsorship to the Lady Warriors was on the verge of being cut due to the departure of Casiey Dongallo, Gelai Gajero and Kizzie Madriaga from the team.
The up-and-coming troika was reportedly set to join the UP Fighting Maroons, also an SGA-backed squad, after their exit from UE.
Last season, the Lady Warriors finished sixth with a 3-11 win-loss card.
SGA will also continue to boost the UE high school basketball program until the conclusion of UAAP Season 88, the final year of its three-year commitment.
“Our promise to UE remains strong,” Lao said. “Our goal is not only to build a strong program but also to help UE win championships. The junior high school championship is just the beginning, and with Coach Karl Santos leading the boys’ team, we are confident that we’ll see them in the Final Four this season.”
The UAAP boys’ basketball tournament is set to begin on Jan. 19.
