PERPETUAL sustained its sizzling start and kept the solo lead in the 100th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament yesterday, scoring its sixth consecutive victory at the expense of San Sebastian College 25-20, 19-25, 25-22, 25-19 at the Jose Rizal University Gym in Mandaluyong City.

Rookie Jem Menor led the scoring load for the Lady Altas with 21 points on 20 attacks while Joyce Uy added 15 markers, and nine off-service aces.

Letran also maintained its winning run, beating Emilio Aguinaldo College 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 25-16.

Opposite spiker Judiel Nitura and rookie Vanessa Sarie led the Lady Knights’ fifth straight victory with 17 and 16 points, respectively, while the latter also had 13 excellent receptions.

The Lady Knights, who played without sophomore Gia Maquilang due to academics, improved to 5-0 while Lady Generals dropped to 1-5 after absorbing their third consecutive loss.

“Masaya as a coach and then as a coach pa rin, meron pa kong nakikitang kulang, medyo meron pa ring factor na kailangang ma-improve and team,” said Perpetual mentor Sandy Rieta.

“Hindi pa (peaking) kasi may nakikita pa akong kulang. Sa perspective ko, parang, well, siguro ganun lang mga coach, hindi nakukuntento, pero masaya ako sa ginagawa ng team. Happy naman kami,” he added.

Outside spiker Shaila Omipon had 13 markers and seven digs while middle blocker Winnie Bedana added 12 points for the Lady Altas.

Skipper Kath Santos paced the Lady Stags, who slipped to 3-2, with a game-high 22 points along with nine digs while Tina Marasigan chipped in 10 markers in the losing effort.

Open spiker Elizza Alimen led the Lady Generals with 15 points while Jamaica Villena and Cara Dayanan scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.
