11 a.m. – SSC vs. Perpetual
1 p.m. – EAC vs. Letran
PERPETUAL Help and Letran try to keep their winning streaks going when they clash with determined opponents today at the halfway mark of the first-round battle in the 100th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Jose Rizal University gym in Mandaluyong City.
In the curtain-raiser at 1 a.m., the Lady Altas stake their 5-0 card against the Lady Stags of San Sebastian while the Lady Knights gun for their fifth straight victory at the expense of the EAC Lady Generals at 1 p.m.
Led by middle blocker Winnie Bedana, Shaila Omipon and Joyce Uy, Perpetual pulled off a convincing victory against EAC last Saturday 25-18, 25-16, 25-18.
The last time the Las Pinas-based crew had a 5-0 start was back in the league’s 88th season when Perpetual completed a back-to-back title win.
San Sebastian will go into the match hoping to improve its 3-1 card.
Six days ago, the Lady Stags bounced back from their loss to defending champion St. Benilde with a straight-sets win over the JRU Lady Bombers 25-19, 25-20, 25-23.
Letran, last season’s losing finalist, is expected to easily hurdle EAC, which has a lowly 1-4 mark in a tie with JRU.
Last Friday, the Lady Knights showed their stellar artillery by scoring a 25-18, 25-18, 26-24 win over the Lyceum Lady Pirates, a semifinalist last season.
Rookie Vanessa Sarie, opposite spiker Judiel Nitura and libero skipper Lara Silva are expected to lead the Lady Knights while the Lady Generals will lean on Cara Dayanan, Erica Bodonal and Eliza Alimen.
