DEFENDING UAAP champion National University simply has one goal in mind—score a repeat in the 87th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament—and the Lady Bulldogs are looking good with that target.
Over the weekend, NU completed a season sweep in the Shakey’s Super League with a three-peat in the SSL Pre-Season Championship.
Led by new coach Sherwin Meneses, the Sampaloc-based crew took ruled the tourney behind reigning two-time UAAP MVP Bella Belen showing the way.
“I’m very happy kasi nakamit namin iyong goal namin for Shakey’s kasi isa rin na ito para maging steppingstone namin, preparation namin for the upcoming UAAP season. Kaya iyon, I’m very happy na nagawa ng team kung ano iyong dapat gawin kaya sumunod lang iyong pagkapanalo,” Belen, who was also named MVP of the pre-season meet, said. “Malaking tulong siya sa amin itong SSL actually kasi iyon nga panalo kami so maganda iyong pagkatapos ng taon para sa amin.
“Siguro dadalin namin siya, iyong mga lessons na natutunan namin for the UAAP season, next year. Pupuliduhin pa namin iyong mga sa tingin namin kulang kasi kahit nanalo kami, tingin ko marami pa dapat kaming pagtrabahuan. Marami pa kaming mga lapses na dapat namin tiyagain sa training,” she added.
Belen, 22, said they are adapting well to the system of Meneses, a multi-titled tactician for the mighty Creamline Cool Smashers in the PVL but admitted that they still have their work cut out for them.
“Sobrang ganda ng composition ng team. Kasi kahit na bago pa lang si coach Sherwin, hindi na ganoon kabago iyong sistema niya sa amin, kasi medyo lang, medyo same same naman doon sa Creamline and sa amin iyong mga passes, iyong mga play so iyon nagdadagdag lang si coach Sherwin kung ano sa tingin niyang puwede pa niyang maidagdag sa team,” Belen said.
