The Alas Pilipinas national women’ volleyball team absorbed its first loss in the AVC Women’s Volleyball Nations Cup at the hands of Iran 25-16, 21-25, 26-24, 23-25, 13-15 yesterday at Dong Ahn Gymnasium in Hanoi, Vietnam.
The erstwhile undefeated Nationals suffered their first setback in the week-long tourney as Angel Canino’s 20-point output went for naught.
With the result, the Jorge Souza de Brito-mentored Alas slipped to 2-1 in Pool B while Iran remained perfect with a 3-0 slate.
Outside spiker Eya Laure and middle blocker Dell Palomata delivered 16 and 10 markers, respectively, for Alas.
Fatemeh Khalili Chermahini led Iran with 21 points while Masoumeh Ghadami Tabaghdehi and Zahra Salehi chipped in 16 and 12 markers, respectively.
The continental meet will have a one-day break and will resume tomorrow.
Alas will face New Zealand at 4 p.m. at the same venue in its bid to return to the winner’s circle.
