PLAYERS from the NCAA who want to apply for the coming Premier Volleyball League Draft will be allowed by the league to do so, but must wait until the end of the 100th season before signing a pro contract.

NCAA season 100 management committee chairman Hercules Callanta of host Lyceum of the Philippines University, along with volleyball committee member Peter Cayco of Arellano University, said they won’t stand in the way of NCAA players as long as they complete the season with their college teams.

The deadline for the PVL Draft application is today, Friday, with the Draft Combine to be held on May 30 to 31 and the Draft proper on June 8th.

“As I understand, ang [deadline for the application of the] Drafting is on May 23. Ang rule ng NCAA is for the potential draftees, those who are interested in getting drafted by the PVL teams, must inform the management committee about their intention to join the Draft. So that’s all they have to do,” Callanta said.

“The NCAA will not prevent anyone from being drafted, and in fact will endorse the request to be drafted. So, ayun lang, that’s all they need to do.”

Cayco, Arellano’s management committee representative, said the players who will be drafted must not sign a pro contract yet, adding the players can participate in the Draft, Draft Combine and even practice with the team that draft them.

“Pinapayagan iyan ng NCAA as long as they do not sign a contract yet. So, they can join the Draft, the Combine, they can be drafted, they can practice with their new team pero wag lang sila mag-sign muna and wag muna sila maglalaro rin [ng] official game. Mga exhibition games, pwede iyan. Papayagan naming,” he said.

Cayco said at least two players have informed the league of their intention to join the draft, one of Season 97 Most Valuable Player and outside spiker Mycah Go of three-peat champions College of Saint Benilde.

For the inaugural PVL Draft last year, 47 aspirants were selected through screening and deliberations.

Among those picked by teams in the Draft were Arellano products Lorraine Pecana (Choco Mucho Flying Titans), Donnalyn Paralejas (Petro Gazz Angels), Dodee Batindaan (Galeries Tower Highrisers) and Perpetual’s former skipper Razel Aldea (Nxled Chameleons) from the NCAA.

EAC’s Cath Almazan was undrafted in the historic event but was later signed by the Akari Chargers.
