PERPETUAL Help and Letran gun for their second straight victory and a share of the lead when they clash with teams looking to crash the winners’ circle today, Thursday, as action in the 100th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament resumes at the San Beda University gym in Manila.
The Lady Altas take on the Jose Rizal U Lady Bombers at 11 a.m. while the Lady Knights battle the Mapua U Lady Cardinals at 1 p.m. in a match dubbed the “Battle of Intramuros.”
Last week, the Las Pinas-based Lady Altas of coach Sandy Rieta displayed an offensive masterclass in their opening game against the San Beda Lady Red Spikers, scoring a 79-minute straight sets victory 25-18, 28-26, 25-16.
“Malaking boost iyon para sa team, iyong first game napanalo. Hopefully, madalanilaiyongkumpiyansa [sasusunodna games],” Rieta said.
“Lahatsila nag-step up para sakin. Marami ring rookies and nagawanamaniyongginagawasa training, iyong game plan so lahatsila good, very good. Nag-step up lahat,” added Rieta of their campaign without former MVP Mary RhoseDapol, whose playing years are over for the team.
The Lady Bombers lost to Letran last Friday in a 26-28, 22-25, 25-11, 25-22 decision.
Expected to lead Perpetual are ShailaOmipon, Winnie Bedana, Camille Bustamante and Pauline Mae Reyes while JRU will lean on Patricia Del Pillar, Nicole Deala, Gayle Batara and Cherish Dayame.
Letran will be led by skipper Lara Silva, Nizelle Martin and JudielNitura while rookie Sheena Sarie is also expected to her hot spiking going.
Mapua tries to bounce back from its 18-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21 loss to San Sebastian last week.
