KOBE Shinwa University took down Cignal 25-7, 25-18, 19-25, 27-25 last night for its second straight win and propped up its finals hopes in the PVL Invitational Conference at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Japanese collegiate team moved closer to clinching the last finals spot in the Invitational, thanks to the effort of Nagisa Komatsuda, who led KSU with 21 points and 11 excellent receptions.

Also providing a big lift for KSU’s offense were Arisu Ishikawa with 15 points, while Kokoro Yasuma and Reira Miyazaki added 12 and 11 markers, respectively, in the one-hour and 49-minute showdown.

With a 3-1 slate, KSU will seek to seal its championship match slot today when it battles On Tour finalist Chery Tiggo at 4 p.m. at the same venue.

With the loss, Cignal wrapped up its campaign in the Invitational with a 1-4 record.

“So, first and second set medyo malaking points iyong gap parang tingin (namin) wala pa sila sa condition, iyong Cignal. Pero, parang third set, parang putol iyong concentration so parang bumalik iyong Cignal,” Kobe Shinwa University coach Kiyokazu Yamamoto said through an interpreter.

“So, iyong third set medyo mahina iyong loob namin. From the first set, sinabi ko sa players, dapat mag-enjoy, huwag matakot. Iyon iyong advice ko sa players,” he added.

Middle blocker Rose Doria-Aquino led the HD Spikers with 16 points while Erika Santos added 11 markers in the losing effort.
