CIGNAL needed only three straight sets yesterday to start its bid in the PVL on Tour, shutting down Akari 25-23, 25-14, 25-23 at at the newly-inaugurated and state-of-the-art Chavit Coliseum in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
The HD Spikers opened the two-month-long pre-season meet with a dominating triumph with newcomers Erika Santos and Tin Tiamzon propelling the squad.
Santos fired 14 points while Tiamzon tallied 11 markers and 14 excellent receptions.
Outside spiker Ishie Lalongisip also made key offensive and defensive efforts for Cignal with nine points, eight digs and six excellent receptions with middle blocker Rose Doria-Aquino adding eight markers.
“Siyempre, sobrang happy kami and very thankful kay Lord kasi pinaghandaan din talaga namin itong tournament na ito,” HD Spikers coach Shaq delos Santos said. “We know marami pang kulang but ang good thing kasi iyong response ng team namin especially kay Erika na siyempre bago lang sa team but the way she play sobrang sobrang happy kami and I’m sure marami pang puwedeng magawa na maganda.”
Added Santos: “Nakaka-overwhelm kasi first game on Tour tapos first game ko sa Cignal. Pero, there’s no room for complacency. Uhaw pa matuto.”
Veterans Eli Soyud and Grethcel Soltones paced the Chargers with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
