CIGNAL dismantled Akari 25-20, 25-11, 28-26 yesterday in their knockout quarterfinals match in the PVL On Tour at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
Opposite spiker Erika Santos dropped 24 points to propel the HD Spikers to the semifinals while middle blocker Rose Doria-Aquino added 10 markers
Skipper Gel Cayuna dished out 18 excellent sets, seven digs and three points for Cignal.
“Unang-una iyong tiwala din namin sa team namin, sa players namin kasi iyon nga medyo naging mahaba iyong rest namin before this game and siguro doon namin talaga ni-ready iyong team namin,” HD Spikers coach Shaq delos Santos said. “Kumbaga, iyong naging foundation namin talagang nag-invest kami kasi alam namin na iyong makakalaban namin talagang mga beterano and experienced players din.
“At the same time kanina, iyon nga, knowing Akari ang lalaki ng players nila. Iyong attacks nila grabe and then iyong blocks ayun nga hirap na hirap din kami. But ang good thing, first two sets, okay naman kontrolado namin pero in-expect din namin talaga na puwede talaga siyang magdikit. Ang good thing, iyon nga, kung paano kami nag-prepare and nag-ready,” he added.
Cignal will now wait for the winner between the Nxled Chameleons and the Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the other Last Eight tiff.
The win-or-go-home semifinal duels are slated for Tuesday next week at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
