INTENSE action in the 100th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament resumes today with defending champion College of St. Benilde out to solidify its Final Four hopes against a lowly San Beda Universitry squad at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Gym in Manila.
Coming off a short break, the Lady Blazers are expected to move into a tie for the lead with Letran when they clash with the Lady Red Spikers at 2:30 p.m.
The four-peat seeking Lady Blazers are running second in the standings with an 11-2 mark, behind Letran with a 12-2 slate, while San Beda is down there at 2-12.
CSB coach OnyokGetigan said the Lady Blazers should remain eager and hungry for more wins as the eliminations get tougher.
“Sigurolahat dapat (i-improve pa), para pagdatingsadulomagandaiyong result,” he said of his squad coming off a 25-18, 31-29, 25-16 win over the Arellano University Lady Chiefs last May 6.
San Beda will go into the game on a high, having stunned contender Lyceum of the Philippines in a five-set thriller last May 7, scoring a 25-14, 22-25, 21-25, 25-13, 16-14 win.
ZamNolasco, Mycah Go, and ShahannaLleses are expected to extend the Lady Blazers’ four-game winning streak while San Beda will rely on Angel Habacon, ReyannCanete and Janelle Bachar.
Clashing in the other game at noon are Mapua University Lady Cardinals and the eliminated Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers.
Riding high on back-to-back wins, the Lady Cardinals (9-5) are looking to boost their semifinals chances and claim solo third in the standings.
