Crossovers outlast Chargers in 5

CESS Robles exploded with a triple-double to help Chery Tiggo outlast Akari in five thrilling sets 24-26, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 15-10 last night in the Premier Volleyball League On Tour at the Ynares Center in Montalban, Rizal.

Chery Tiggo improved to 2-0 in Pool B of the preliminaries with Robles dropping 23 markers, 15 digs, and 10 excellent receptions.

Rookies Renee Penafiel and Baby Jyne Soreño also shone for the Crossovers with 12 and nine points, respectively, with the latter adding eight excellent receptions.

 “Masayang masaya. Two games, tapos two wins. Yung panalo kahapon nagging confidence booster. Malaking bagay sa amin ito,” said Chery mentor Norman Miguel.

The fifth frame featured five deadlocks, the last at 6-all, but the Crossovers came up with a 3-0 run to make it 9-6.

Chery made it 13-9, with Soreño firing a down-the-line attack and a service ace to finish the match.

Akari, which slipped to 1-3, was paced by outside hitter Ivy Lacsina and opposite spiker Eli Soyud with 18 and 17 markers, respectively, in the losing effort.
