PASSI CITY, Iloilo. — The Creamline Cool Smashers will be taking all the lessons they have learned heading to next stage of the PVL On Tour, hoping they would not make the same mistakes moving forward.
Unlike their stellar performances in the regular conferences, the Cool Smashers faced adversities in the pre-season tournament, absorbing back-to-back losses before returning the win column over the weekend.
Creamline finished the group stage with a 3-2 card in Pool B and the fancied Cool Smashers endured a roller coaster outing in their stint over the weekend here.
The Sherwin Meneses-mentored squad yielded to ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles 24-26, 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 Saturday before they bounced back at the expense of Chery Tiggo Crossovers 25-21, 19-25, 25-16, 25-18 the following day.
Creamline awaits its fate—either it will go through the knockout round or it will advance to the playoffs.
“Napaka-importante ng panalo against Chery Tiggo kasi nga iyong standings, dikit-dikit. Hindi naman sa amin importante kung iyong two games namin is natalo. Ang importante, natuto kami kung bakit kami natatalo,” Meneses, who celebrated his birthday, said.“Sa tingin ko iyong lapses last time, iyong napaka-careless ng mga galaw namin. Mga basic errors, nag-eerror kami. Sa ngayon, mataas iyong performance ng team. Naging maganda iyong panalo dahil iyong composure nandyan,” he added.
Skipper Alyssa Valdez also reflected on what went wrong during their struggles as she wants the team to play with consistency and preparation.
“Honestly, I think one thing na na-realize namin we just have to play and enjoy the game and respect the game. Madaming mga lapses, kaya naman very specific din iyong lapses namin from our first game so mas madaling naka-adjust game,” Valdez said.
“With the help of my teammates, my coaches talaga, hopefully, maging mas consistent pa and mas makapagprepare pa for the upcoming games na mas crucial games.”
