Angels rise from sorry loss

GAMES TOMORROW
(The Arena, San Juan)
4 p.m. – PLDT vs. Farm Fresh
6:30 p.m. – Cignal vs. Creamline

After absorbing a five-set heartbreak in their opening match, the Petro Gazz Angels found their winning groove in the PVL On Tour yesterday via a 25-23, 25-21, 26-24 victory over the Galeries Tower Highrisers at the Batangas City Sports Center.

The Angels barged into the winning column and improved to 1-1 in Pool A, thanks to the efforts of veteran Myla Pablo who dazzled with 14 points while Jonah Sabete added 10 markers and nine excellent receptions.

Middle blocker Joy Dacoron also made her presence felt for Petro Gazz’s bounce back win with 10 points built on five attacks, three service aces and two kill blocks.

Petro Gazz, sans stars Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips who are both with the Alas Pilipinas national team in the VTV Cup in Vietnam, fell short to Nxled last Saturday 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 15-25, 10-15.

“Well, kasi ngayon kasi mga bawat team is lumakas naman talaga ngayon this PVL On Tour and I think din talaga, ang nangyari din kasi sa amin noong first game talaga is adjustment lahat sa nangyari kasi una iyong mga rookies talaga namin nag-a-adjust pa and siyempre wala din iyong ang main na player namin sila MJ and Brooke,” Pablo said.

“Pero siyempre kung sino iyong nandito iyon na iyong gagawa ng paraan kung paano namin iha-handle iyong team namin this conference,” she added.

Opposite spiker Ysa Jimenez led the scoring load for Galeries with 13 points, skipper Roselle Baliton fired 10 markers, while proud Batanguena Jewel Encarnacion chipped in nine points.

The Highrisers fell to 0-2.
