UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas whipped Far Eastern University 25-23, 25-16, 25-13 yesterday to remain unscathed in the V-League Collegiate Challenge women’s division at the Paco Arena in Manila.

The Espana-based crew notched its third straight victory while tightening up its hold on the lead, thanks to Angge Poyos and Regina Jurado who sizzled with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Middle blocker Em Banagua also made her presence felt for the Golden Tigresses with eight makers, half of them from kill blocks, while lefty spiker Jonna Perdido also delivered eight in the duel that lasted one hour and 28 minutes.

“Maganda iyong galaw, nami-nimize namin iyong errors namin. Noong first set, ang ganda, everybody’s game noong first set. Luckily, kami iyong tumama sa dulo kasi nga tumama iyong challenge namin, so malaking turn of events iyon,” UST coach Kungfu Reyes said. “Malaki iyong turning point namin iyon hangga’t sa nakuha namin iyong game. Everything was right in place, parang ganoon iyong nangyari.

“Basta may maturity lang naman, iyon ang hinahanap namin, and ito na, paunti-unti na nagkakaroon ng resulta kung ano pinaghihirapan ng players,” he added.

Earlier, College of St. Benilde drubbed University of the Philippines 25-13, 25-22, 25-21 for its first win.
