UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas spoiled the debut of new Letran coach Oliver Almadro by scoring a 25-21, 25-23, 25-14 win yesterday to stay unbeaten in the 2023 Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Pre-Season Championship at The Arena in San Juan.
After closely winning the first two sets, the Golden Tigresses mauled the Lady Knights in the third for their second straight win in Pool C of the 16-team tourney.
Incoming rookie Angeline Poyos starred for UST with 13 points while Xyza Gula and setter Cassie Carballo had nine and seven markers, respectively.
UST coach Kungfu Reyes was far from impressed, however, saying they still need to play better.
“Kaya nga kami sumali dito para ma-execute ‘yung ginagawa namin sa training,” said Reyes, adding: “Pag nagdala kami ng bad habit na malamya, parang tino-tolerate namin na ganun. So kailangan dito pa lang, hinahasa na. Kailangan ‘yung hirap nila sa training, ma-execute at mag-manifest during games.”
