SEASONED campaigners Kenzo Umali and Patrick Nuqui topped Pool 3 of Group B to become the latest Filipino pair to advance to the second round of doubles play in the IBF World Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Kuwait Bowling Sporting Club in Kuwait City.
Playing under the format where the top two teams from each pool advance, Umali and Nuqui complemented each other well, gaining a maximum of 15 points by scoring lines of 209, 220, 195, 255 and 196 for a 1071 tally and 214.20 average.
They beat crack pairs from Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Lithuania and Qatar to make it to the next round of the men’s doubles.
Failing to move on to the next round was the duo of Zach Ramin and Ivan Malig, who finished fourth in Pool 3 of Group C with a combined tally of 1038 and an average of 207.40, which was good for nine points.
Umali and Nuqui were set to join Merwin Tan and John Macatula in the second round yesterday.
The other Pinoys pairs seeing action in the second round are the tandems of Grace Gella-Krizziah Tabora-Macatula, Rachelle Leon-Lara-Posadas Wong and Maria Lourdes Arles-Dyan Coronacion.
