WILL COVID-19 infections burst the 84th UAAP basketball tournament’s bubble?

League executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag said the UAAP will set a limit on the number of virus cases on a team before it decides whether games will be called off.

“Magkakaroon tayo ng threshold (for positive cases), as long as it satisfies the minimum number of players in the team, (it will continue),” Saguisag said.

“One player, two players testing positive, okay pa iyon,” he added.

Saguisag said the league will follow Department of Health guidelines in its bid to stage its new season after a nearly two-year hiatus.

“We are guided of course with what the Department of Health hands out,” Saguisag said. “Rest assured we’ll be working within what’s allowed scientifically, medically, and legally.”

Players suiting up in the new season set to kick off on March 26 must be fully vaccinated against the unseen but vicious enemy, while booster shots are not required, according to Saguisag.

“Fully-vaxed is a requirement and by that we mean, for us okay na iyong two shots,” he said.

The centerpiece events men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and cheerdance lead the league’s calendar.

The slate also includes men’s and women’s 3×3 basketball, men’s beach volleyball, poomsae, and men’s and women’s chess.
