UAAP mulls holding 83rd season in bubble

BUBBLE or nothing.

If the UAAP’s plan to hold its 83rd season pushes through next year, it will likely be in a bubble, according to league executive director Atty. Rebo Saguisag.

“Bubble ang tinitignan namin. Sabi nga nila it’s either you have a bubble, or you don’t and iba ang general public health concerns when you open the malls and restaurants as opposed to opening a sports bubble which is a controlled environment,” Saguisag said on Radyo5 92.3 News FM’s Power and Play program hosted by former PBA commissioner Noli Eala.

“I would even argue that keeping these sports bubbles would actually be safer and for their better interest than sa kanilang probinsya na hindi natin alam kung paano sila nagpra-practice,” he added.

Saguisag said the UAAP is preparing for its new season and has already prepared health and safety protocols for approval of concerned government agencies.

“We continue to consult with the experts, and we talked with the representatives of the other leagues, and we’re happy that the PSC, GAB, and CHED helped us in crafting these protocols,” Saguisag said.

“Approval na lang iyan. Nagkaroon lang ng kaunting glitch dahil bumalik tayo sa ECQ, pero naantala lang.”

The son of human rights advocate and former senator Rene said the league is pushing for vaccination as part of its protocols.

“Pagpunta namin sa IATF, we’ll make it part of our requirements, na for everyone to be involved, everyone has to be vaccinated. We’ll adopt everything and add vaccination for everyone involved,” he said.

“We continue to refine those protocols to this day. Sana dire-diretso na.”

The Commission on Higher Education released the safety and health guidelines for the resumption of collegiate training in October last year.
