UAAP 84: The shorter, the better

UAAP season 84 President Emmanuel Calanog of host La Salle said budget was foremost among the factors considered by the league in deciding its calendar of events.

“We could not just decide on a whim what will be added to the roster (of events). Our main criteria were really sports that have few participants and have a short stand in terms of the running of the tournament,” Calanog said on Radyo5 92.3 News FM’s Power and Play program hosted by former PBA Commissioner Noli Eala.

“We were really trying to avoid having long tournaments because those would entail higher costs in terms of having a training bubble and all of these things,” he added.

The league is set to kick off its new season on March 26 with the centerpiece events of men’s basketball, women’s volleyball and cheerdance leading the calendar.
