TERRAFIRMA arranged a quarterfinals showdown with top seed TNT Tropang Giga in the knockout stage of the PBA 3×3 second leg yesterday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
The Dyip, despite playing minus injured big man Roider Cabrera, secured the eighth and last quarterfinals berth by beating Purefoods TJ Titans 22-12 in their sudden-death match pitting the third best team in Pools B and C.
Terrafirma scored the first five points of the game and never looked back to slam the door on the Titans, who also played without Val Acuna (broken jaw).
TNT Tropang Giga, the maiden leg champion, and Sista Super Sealers clinched berths in the next round as early as Wednesday when they ended their pool campaign with similar 3-1 marks in Pool A.
Platinum Karaoke clinched the top spot in Pool C with an unblemished 3-0 record after beating fellow guest team Pioneer Pro Tibay 21-18. Pioneer finished with a 2-1 card to likewise progress into the next stage.
Platinum will take on Sista Super Sealers in the quarterfinals, while Pioneer Pro Tibay faces Limitless Appmasters.
The Appmasters, Dyip, and the Meralco Bolts ended up tied with similar 2-1 records in Pool B, but Meralco and Limitless Appmasters gained the outright quarterfinals berths due to higher points accumulated.
The other quarterfinal match features the Bolts against the San Miguel Beermen, who clinched the No. 3 spot in Pool A after ending up tied with Cavitex Braves with identical 2-2 records.
Earlier, Limitless Appmasters dealt Terrafirma its first loss in Pool B 18-11 as the Dyip played Cabrera.
