Terrafirma aching to crash winner’s circle

DESPITE his team’s extended woes in the pre-season, Terrafirma coach Johnedel Cardel insisted there’s light at the end of the tunnel.

“Unti-unti, nakikita mo namang may improvement kahit paano,” Cardel said.

“May mga players na nag-e-excel at iyong sistema nakukuha na,” he added.

The Dyip try to wake up from their long stupor when they tangle with TNT today in the PBA on Tour at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.

The match is set at 5 p.m., with Cardel’s charges aching to crash the winner’s circle following a 0-2 start in the no-bearing tilt.

Rain or Shine seeks a third straight win in as many games when it takes on San Miguel Beer in the nightcap at 7:30.

Cardel is hoping his charges can finally get the job done.

“Hindi lang masyadong obvious kasi nga wala pang panalo,” Cardel, who celebrates his 53rd birthday yesterday, said.

“But I think we’re getting there. More games na lang ang kailangan.”

The return of Kevin Ferrer, who suffered from a hand injury early in an 82-119 loss to Converge, and JP Calvo, who missed the first two games due to an illness, would surely boost the Dyip’s drive.

The Tropang Giga dropped their opening game to NorthPort 90-99 last Friday when the Batang Pier pounced on the absence of Jayson Castro, Mikey Williams, Calvin Oftana, Roger Pogoy and Kelly Williams, who were given extended rest and more time to heal following TNT’s Governors’ Cup title triumph last April.

Former San Beda University standouts Clifford Jopia, Damie Cuntapay, Peter Alfaro and JV Gallego will be counted upon by the Tropang Giga to deliver.
