PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos hailed Filipina tennis player Alex Eala for her historic run at the Lexus Eastbourne Open, where she became the first Filipino to reach the Women’s Tennis Association 250 singles final.
The First Couple took to social media to separately express their accolades and congratulations to Ayala, who bowed to Maya Joint of Australia in the finals and finished runner-up.
“Tuloy ang laban, Alex! We all watched you make history as the first Filipino to reach a WTA 250 singles final. That alone is already a victory for our country and for the millions of Filipinos who stand proudly behind you. You’ve made us all proud! Keep going, your best is yet to come,” the President said.
The First Lady said Eala should hold her head high as he had done the Filipinos proud.
“You played with so much heart, courage and grace — and while the score didn’t go our way, your spirit lit up the court. Thank you for showing us what true sportsmanship is like and for inspiring every young Filipina to chase big dreams. Mabuhay ka, Alex! We’re so proud of you!” she added.
