VIETNAM Southeast Asian Games double gold medalist Merwin Tan and 2017 World Cup champion Krizziah Tabora-Macatula will lead the national men’s and women’s squads that will see action in the IBF World Cup slated Nov. 3 to 16 in Queensland, Australia.

While he was seeded for the Queensland meet, Tan and Tabora-Macatula were among those who took part in the four-day national team tryouts for both the World Cup and the Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships in Hong Kong in January 2023 that ended over the weekend.

Also qualifying for the World Cup after the national team tryouts held at the Coronado Lanes Starmall in Mandaluyong were Jordan Dinham, Emerson Gotencio and Kenneth Chua for the men’s side and Mades Arless, and Lara Posadas-Wong Rachelle Leon on the distaff side.

Biboy Rivera and Jojo Canare, the national men’s and women’s coach, respectively, will join the national contingent during the two-week tournament.

Tan will not be able to compete in the Asian bowling meet due to his academic schedule so Patrick Nuqui, Ian Dychangco and Ivan Malig will complete the six-man lineup for the Hong Kong keg meet while Alexis Sy and Dale Lazo will fill up the remaining two slots in the women’s squad.

“All of them are seasoned players and should do well in the World Cup. All of them are medal winners. Krizziah is a World Cup champion while Merwin is our Vietnam SEA Games double gold medalist,” Commissioner Bong Coo, the former Philippine Bowling Federation president, of the Philippine Sports Commission noted.
