UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas promptly showed it is no pushover in the 86th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament.
In their first match of the season, the Golden Tigresses handed last year’s bridesmaids the National University Lady Bulldogs a stunning 25-19, 25-23, 25-22, loss two nights back.
Despite fielding a young team, mostly composed of rookies and sophomores and without former star Eya Laure along with Imee Hernandez and Milena Alessandrini, UST got the job done.
Veteran coach Kungfu Reyes admitted that although he wasn’t surprised with how the Golden Tigresses played, it was the sweep that shocked him.
Masuwerte lang at nanalo kami,” he added.
The Tigresses aim for a back-to-back triumph when they battle the University of the East Lady Warriors tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
