SAN Sebastian College coach Egay Macaraya could not help but rue the timing of the soaring COVID-19 infections hitting his charges.
“Grabe ang bilis ng Omicron variant. Talo iyong mga players ko pagdating sa sprinting,” Macaraya told Malaya-Business Insight in jest, making light out of the situation yesterday.
“Ang daming absent sa virtual practice namin because they are sick. Hoping everything will be okay na,” he added.
The rising new coronavirus cases and the presence of the highly transmissible Omicron variant in the National Capital Region forced the government to tighten up health and safety protocols anew.
The Golden Stags opted to err on the side of caution, according to Macaraya.
“Yes, for us, on hold muna ang bubble training,” he said. “We’re waiting for the IATF, and NCAA advice.”
San Sebastian wound up with an 11-7 card to advance to the Final Four as the fourth-ranked squad in the last NCAA cage wars 2019.
