SAN Sebastian College trounced also-ran Letran 25-15, 25-22, 27-25 yesterday to clinch a Final Four berth in the 97th NCAA women’s volleyball tournament at the Paco Arena.
Rookie Kath Santos and Reyann Cañete starred with 15 points apiece for the Lady Stags, while Kristine Dionisio finished with nine markers.
Amaka Tan delivered eight points, setter Alexia Sison tossed 20 excellent sets and libero team captain Jewelle Bermillo had 22 digs and 12 excellent receptions as San Sebastian made up for its 27-25, 22-25, 25-16, 18-25, 13-15 loss to Lyceum last three days and wound up with a 6-3 card in its elimination round campaign.
The Lady Stags returned to the Final Four after two seasons and will enter the stepladder semis as the third seed.
The Lady Knights, coming off a 25-17, 25-21, 25-18 upset of Mapua University last Wednesday, finished their season with a 2-7 slate.
“Espesyal na espesyal ito kasi para sa kanila, sila na kasi iyong bagong batch. Sila na iyong nagdala na ganyan tsaka makikita mo iyong laro nila talagang pinaghihirapan nila,” San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb said.
“Pinaghihirapan talaga nilang manalo tsaka makikita mo iyong potensyal na kahit tatlo iyong first year sa loob nairaraos nila,” he added.
Skipper Julienne Castro and Chamberlaine Cunada had eight points apiece for Letran, while Natalie Estreller and Daisy Melendres registered seven markers each.
The first match between San Beda University and Perpetual was moved to tomorrow.
