The SODEX (or Service Outreach and Distribution Extension Program) mobile clinic of DKT Philippines Foundation was recently (May 8) inaugurated in Binangonan, Rizal. The bus is equipped to perform free bilateral tubal ligation on women and non-scalpel vasectomy on men.
Family-planning commodities like pills, condoms, injectables and IUD (intrauterine devices) will also be given free.
The mobile clinic will travel for 119 days to offer these free services in the provinces of Central Luzon, North Luzon, Cordillera, MIMAROPA and CALABARZON with the first stop being at Binangonan, Rizal where the demand for family planning services is high. The mobile clinic is ready to serve 2,500 beneficiaries until December this year.
Next year, the mobile clinic will cover communities in the Visayas and Mindanao areas.
According to Denise van Dijk, board chair of DKT Philippines Foundation, “the Sodex mobile clinic ensures that people who cannot access the reproductive health services they need in the public sector, are not left behind and still have free access to these services. It is a part of a total market approach, complementing the important work the local LGUs do on a daily basis.”
