Silver linings abound in pre-season games

DESPITE their fast start in the extended pre-season, Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao and Magnolia counterpart Chito Victolero refused to fall into a false sense of contentment.

“It’s always nice to win, of course, but at the same time, we don’t want to fall into a false sense of confidence,” Guiao said.

So, mahaba pa iyan, malayo pa,” he added.

Guiao spoke after his charges blasted Terrafirma Dyip 121-95 last Sunday to hike their mark to 4-0 in the PBA on Tour.

The Hotshots followed suit with a 91-80 victory over Ginebra three days ago to tie the Elasto Painters as the only unscathed squads in the no-bearing tilt.

Victolero maintained Magnolia can only get better.

Guiao, who returned to call the shots for Rain or Shine anew last season, said while it’s still too early, the pre-season should do wonders for his team.

“Ang importante iyong nakakapag-laro kami, to gain experience, to learn, to validate ourselves, gain more confidence, and be able to run our system,” he said.

“If you’re looking for a good sign, this is a good sign. There’s also something positive we can take home from this pre-season.”
