ONE of the country’s top local cagers opting to support a homegrown brand.
World Balance has unveiled the look and features of the first signature shoe of Ginebra star wingman Scottie Thompson, called Scottie 1, that will soon be available in the market.
“The sports industry is saturated by big brand players, but I chose a trustworthy local brand that provides quality and affordable shoes for Pinoys,” Thompson said.
“I knew with World Balance, I would have so much input creatively with my own signature basketball shoe, and hopefully provide the right gear to the aspiring Filipino athletes, whether they are playing on the streets, court, or campus. It really resonated with me to know that I could humbly represent and wear one of our own homegrown brands while playing on big arenas every game season, iyon ang may impact para sa akin,” he added.
The 6-foot-1 Thompson, who has five titles with the Kings and a finals MVP award he captured in the 2018 mid-season Commissioner’s Cup, became the first player since pro league legend Phillip Cezar to sign with the brand.
Thompson said he has already used it in the past two conferences, including in last year’s PBA Philippine Cup where the Kings won the crown.
“Actually, two conference ko nang nagamit itong shoes and wala talaga ako masabi sa comfort and performance talaga,” Thompson said.
Thompson, 28, said he is excited and proud to be part of the World Balance family.
“I am really excited and proud to join the World Balance family. I believe the brand is the perfect partner because World Balance has shown that they are a steadfast supporter of those who want to take on the world and win in different ways,” he said.
“They understand what it is like to be an underdog and like the brand, I want to prove myself on and off the court and show the world that you can be like David in a league full of goliaths. World Balance understands the Pinoy passion when it comes to sports, and they encourage me to be 100% authentic whether that’s playing basketball on the hardcourt or showing off my personal style off-court.”
