THE national rowing team aims to make waves to wind up its 2022 season when it sees action in four events at the start today of the Asian Rowing Championships in the coastal city of Ban Chang in Rayong province, Thailand.
Opening the campaign for the Filipino rowers at 9 a.m. are Jane Feiza Lenton, Alyssa Go, Julianne Karl Sha and Joanie del Gaco in the women’s lightweight quadruple sculls heats.
On deck next is the four-man men’s squad of Athens Greece Tolentino, Roque Abala Jr., Zuriel Sumintac and Edgar Ilas in the lightweight men’s four preliminaries, followed by Kristine Paraon, who will compete in the women’s singles sculls.
Amelyn Pagulayan and Josephine Mireille Qua will be the last Pinoy rowers seeing action for the day in the women’s double sculls heats.
The team’s stint is supported by the Philippine Sports Commission.
National coach Edgar Maerina said the Nationals had trained hard for the competition at their training camp at the La Mesa Dam reservoir in Quezon City and hope to strive well, especially after they failed to bring home a gold medal in the Vietnam SEA Games.
Local bets captured two silver and six bronze medals in the Vietnam edition of the regional meet last May after bagging three mints and one bronze in the Philippine Games three years ago.
