IN keeping with his aspirations, Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richard Bachmann will have separate funds for the continued refurbishing of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and the Philsports Complex in Pasig City.

This is based on the P1.156 billion allocation for the PSC contained in the approved 2024 General Appropriations Act that was signed into law by President Marcos Jr. last December, whose breakdown was obtained from the Department of Budget of Management website.

Based on the budget of the PSC, an agency that falls under the Office of the President, P200 million has been set aside for the rehabilitation of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, which includes the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Rizal Track and Football Stadium, Ninoy Aquino Stadium and Teofilo Yldefonso Swimming Center, among others.

The RMSC also serves as the dorms for some of the athletes and coaches in the national pool.

Another P75 million in the PSC budget was earmarked for the rehabilitation and upgrading of the Philsports Complex where the Philsports track oval, Philsports pool and Philsports Arena are located and serve as the quarters for some of the athletes and coaches as well.

Bachmann has repeatedly expressed his desire to renovate and repair the PSC-administered sports facilities so that athletes can train and live in a proper environment before they compete for the country in overseas tournaments.

Also set aside in the PSC 2024 budget was P15 million for preparation, training and participation of the country’s campaigners in the last Winter Youth Olympics in Gangwon, South Korea.

There also are allotments for the same purpose for the Paris Olympic Games (P52 million), and Paris Paralympic Games (P15 million), respectively.

The country’s national and national para athletes in many supports are vying to qualify for the Paris Summer Games set from July 11 to 26 and Aug. 28 to Sept. 8, respectively, in the French capital.

Allocations were also set aside for the staging the Philippine National Para Games (P10 million), Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines (BIMP) East Asean Growth Area Games (P30 million), Indigenous People Games (P10 million) and this year’s edition of the ROTC Games, a pet project of Sen. Francis Tolentino, (P65.7 million).

The Philippine National Anti-Doping Organization receives a P10 million budget while P80 million has been earmarked for supporting the staging of the Volleyball Nations League as well as P10 million for the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Challenge.
