Ravena, Ramos working on chemistry

GILAS Pilipinas standouts Thirdy Ravena and Dwight Ramos are working hard to jive with their teammates in the national team training pool for the first window of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers.

“For us, it’s really a matter of getting to know each other. Iyong chemistry sa loob, malaking tulong na parehas kami ng sistema (with TNT),” Ravena said last Saturday on Radyo5 92.3 News FM’s Power and Play program hosted by former PBA commissioner Noli Eala.

“We just have to be familiar sa mga laro namin para alam namin kung saan iyong isa’t isa during the game,” he added.

The 6-foot-5 Ramos echoed Ravena’s sentiments, saying: “We’re just trying to get everything together, get ready on defense and our offensive systems. For now, we’re just working on coming together as a team.”

Ravena and Ramos, both Japan B. League imports with San-En and Toyama, respectively, were loaned by their teams for a virtually no-bearing window since the Nationals already have a slot in the World Cup next year as one of the hosts.

Along with Juan Gomez de Liaño, William Navarro, Jaydee Tungcab, Tzaddy Rangel, and naturalized player Ange Kouame, the pool is camped for the first window at the Moro Lorenzo Sports Center in Katipunan.

NorthPort star Robert Bolick joined the pool last Saturday.

The eight players will be propped up by players from reigning PBA Philippine Cup champion TNT.

The Filipino cagers battle rival South Korea in Group A on Feb. 24 and 28 and India on Feb. 25, and New Zealand two days later behind closed doors at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

With time ticking, the 6-foot-2 Ravena hopes they will find ways to hack it.

“Hopefully, I could jell with the team and the system as fast as I could as soon as possible. We have 15 days, there’s no guarantee kung saan kami makaabot in 15 days,” Ravena said.
