DWIGHT Ramos is out to spread his wings and prove his worth as a pro in the Japan B.League.
He has just one regret: Missing the chance to play for Ateneo in the UAAP.
“I wish I had the chance to wear Ateneo blue and white in the UAAP,” Ramos said on his Instagram account.
“However, due to the circumstances surrounding the pandemic presently and in the foreseeable future, I have decided to take my next step in my growth as a person and as an athlete,” he added.
In a surprise turn of events, the 6-foot-5 Ramos signed a one-year contract with Toyoma last Friday, joining seven other Filipino cagers in the Land of the Rising Sun.
The likes of Kiefer Ravena of the Shiga Lakestars, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. of Nagoya, Kobe Paras of Niigata Albirex BB, Juan Gomez de Liaño of Tokyo Z, Javi Gomez de Liaño of Ibakari, and Kenmark Carino of Aomori are the other Filipino dribblers set to see action in Japan.
Thirdy Ravena was the first Filipino to play in the Japan league last year for San-En NeoPhoenix.
Ramos, 23, is convinced his stint overseas would only make him a better player for Gilas Pilipinas.
“I believe that the experience and competition level in the B.League will only allow me to become a better contributor to the Gilas Program, which will continue to have my full commitment,” Ramos said.
