ACE wingman Dwight Ramos has signed a contract extension with Levanga Hokkaido in the Japan B. League but he will be ready to answer the call for Gilas Pilipinas.
“At 25, I can’t say for sure what’s going to happen in the future,” Ramos said last Wednesday during the team’s online press conference.
“But as long as I’m still playing at a high level and my body can hold up, then I’m going to keep on playing for the national team,” he added.
The 6-foot-4 Ramos has learned to adjust promptly during games–something he sees as a big boost in his budding career.
“Each team plays a different way so you kind of have to recognize it quickly and learn how to counter very fast. After one game, you prepare for the next guy, the next team, you have to prepare quickly and learn everything fast,” Ramos said.
“I think that’s something that could help me in the B. League with so many teams, I must adjust quickly.”
Ramos, 25, was good for 13.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists for Gilas in the last FIBA World Cup.
Japan’s inspiring run in the global basketball extravaganza where it gained a slot to the Paris Olympics was worth it, according to Ramos, with his sights trained on helping the Philippines achieve that goal in the future.
“It’s really a nice thing to see that they went to the Olympics, and they deserve it,” he said. “I watched a couple of games. They played the right way, and they were cheering for each other.
“Their energy was so good and I’m hoping that the Philippines can get back there one day.”
