SAN Beda University and College of St. Benilde spikers are fast proving their worth in this most unusual of seasons.
The Lady Red Spikers’ Cherry Quizon and the Lady Blazers’ Marites Pablo took the lead over the weekend after the first round of the 96th NCAA All-Star Spiking Challenge at the Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City.
Although both are already graduates, Quizon and Pablo were allowed to suit up in this special competition where the volleybelles need to spike the ball into three targets on the court.
Quizon was the faster between the two, converting on her second attempt, while Pablo, the younger sister of pro Myla, scored her lone point on her ninth try.
Perpetual Help’s Bianca Tripoli and Jose Rizal University’s Angela Bondoc failed to score a point in their turns.
In the spiking competition, there are three targets on the court and each player is given three balls to spike inside each target.
The player will declare starting position and intended target sequence, where a hit target gets one point.
