WITH the help of Sen. Bong Go, the Philippine Sports Commission is hoping that laws would be passed to institutionalize the Philippine National Games and the Batang Pinoy, two of the PSC’s flagship programs, guaranteeing both of sustained funding in the years to come.

PSC Chairman Richard Bachmann announced this positive development during the Private Schools Athletic Association National Congress held over the weekend in Legazpi, Albay.

“I understand from Sen. Bong Go that the law for institutionalizing the Philippine National Games is now on its first reading, so we requested the good senator if it was also possible to craft a bill to institutionalize the Batang Pinoy,” he said.

“Should these become laws, then we will no longer have funding problems for both programs, and we will have to thank Sen. Bong for making this happen,” added the PSC chief.

Although Bachmann did not divulge the actual costs, millions of pesos were spent in the simultaneous hosting in Metro Manila of the Batang Pinoy National Championships and the PNG that drew close to 20,000 athletes and officials last December.

With 400 member schools nationwide, the PRISAA will be a major implementing arm of the PSC’s grassroots sports programs.
