THE national boxing team’s continued training in Thailand before leaving for the 31st Vietnam Southeast Asian Games can be a double-edged sword, but the pros in staying there outweigh the cons, according to boxing secretary general Marcus Manalo.
“The other national boxers from Vietnam, Cambodia and, of course, Thailand are already there so ABAP decided that our boxers remain there after the Thailand Open,” Manalo said of the decision of Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines led by Ed Picson.
“The Thai Boxing Association offered us the chance to stay and train so we took it up,” added the ABAP sec-gen, adding the Pinoy pugs are working out at the Thai National Boxing Training Center in Muak Lek, Suraburi province.
Overseeing them at the secluded training facility are Australian head coach Don Abnett and his deputy Ronald Chavez.
