THE Philippine Sports Commission received commendation from lawmakers for the historic achievements of Filipino athletes this year, highlighted by the country’s best Olympic finish at the Paris Olympics, winning two gold and two bronze medals.
The recognition came after the PSC’s budget passed the Senate plenary level, where Committee on Sports and Health chair Sen. Bong Go enumerated the ongoing and coming infrastructure projects aimed to enhance the welfare of athletes and support their participation in major international competitions next year.
“We wish you all the best! Congratulations, Chairman Bachmann, sa time mo ‘yung mga medals natin sa Olympics. I hope that it has been the fruit of a well-planned sports development program,” Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III, who interpellated on the PSC budget hearing, said.
Among the key infrastructure projects to be prioritized by the PSC are improvements to the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex (RMSC) in Manila, the PhilSports Complex in Pasig City, and the Teachers’ Camp in Baguio City.
Notable projects include the construction of a seven-story athletes’ dormitory, which held its groundbreaking last September, thanks to the efforts of Sen. Pia Cayetano.
planned developments include the construction of a 12-story multi-purpose facility, the rehabilitation of the Rizal Memorial Baseball Field to meet international standards, and the renovation of the PSC Administrative Building at the RMSC.
As the sports agency continues to modernize and develop high-quality facilities, addressing the welfare of athletes at all levels—from grassroots to elite—remains among the top priorities of the PSC.
Also emphasized were the coming programs, including the Philippine National Games and key international competitions where the Philippines will participate, such as the Southeast Asian Games, Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games, Asian Winter Games, and the Asian Youth Para Games, among others.
PSC Chairman Richard Bachmann expressed his gratitude for the support and said the allocated budget would be distributed effectively to prioritize the needs of stakeholders, with the goal of sustaining the current success of Philippine sports.
“We envision long-term benefits for all athletes and sports stakeholders through every program we implement. Our athletes should be able to focus solely on their strategies when they compete. This is a crucial step in maintaining the Philippines’ stature in the international sporting community. Thank you to everyone for your continued support,” Bachmann said.
