THE Philippine Sports Commission-supported Team Philippines left for Solo, Indonesia yesterday on a chartered flight for the 11th Asean Para Games set to start on July 30.
The team will vie for honors in the biggest biennial multisport event for differently-abled athletes against 10 other member-countries of the Asean.
Filipino para-athletes will compete in archery, athletics, badminton, boccia, chess, goalball, judo, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, swimming, table tennis, and wheelchair basketball for men and women. They are accompanied by 38 coaches, and 40 team officials.
The PSC is supporting the campaign of the 222-man delegation to the tune of P51.2 million.
“We support our national para-athletes as much as we support our abled athletes. This is their chance to raise the flag again in the 11th Asean Para Games.” Said PSC Executive Director and officer-in-charge Atty. Guillermo B. Iroy Jr. said.
A total of P31.7 million was released for the team’s actual participation which covers the cost of the chartered flight, accommodation, travel and COVID-19 medical insurance, meal allowance, and swab test, among others, for the seven-day sportsfest ending on Aug. 6.
