LEGAZPI, Albay. – With the support of the Legazpi city government, the second post-pandemic edition of the Private Schools Athletic Association National Games aims to get better and attract more participants, according to PRISAA national president Ed Balasta.

“If the city of Zamboanga was able to draw some 8,000 participants in 2023, we hope to surpass that number when Legazpi hosts the PRISAA National Games,” Balasta said during the PRISAA National Congress over the weekend here.

He said they could draw as many as 9,000 athletes and coaches for the meet, citing the fact that Legazpi is now more accessible with the opening of the Bicol International Airport in the neighboring town of Daraga for those coming from the North and South of the host city.

“We have better roads now and those who are coming from the south can reach us through the port in Matnog, Sorsogon. Of course, there is Mount Mayon, which is also a top tourist attraction that many want to see,” he added.

He said that based on their schedule, “we are now 70 percent complete in our preparations and everything is going according to plan” in the Games for both high school and collegiate athletes scheduled July 14 to 21 in the Albay provincial capital.

Also the president of the Computer Communication Development Institute in Sorsogon, Balasta said their partnership and coordination with all key government agencies, including the Legazpi City government headed by Carmen Rosal, is fast firming up.

“Our collaboration with the city of Legazpi, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education and Bicol University have all been finalized,” he said.
